Publication 1 — 2022 臺灣媽祖月曆 (Taiwan Mazu Monthly Calendar)
I remember buying this calendar at the end of last year for one of my friends when I was in Taiwan. I saw this calendar at a chain bookstore in Taiwan, so it was probably made for people to hang in their rooms and doors. The layout is very simple with the monthly calendar with important dates and facts about Mazu (a Taiwan Goddess) in a different location. I also really liked the bright solid colours that are in contrast with the blank spaces and white strokes.
Publication 2 — 8 Immortals’ Colours
This is a project based on Chinese folklore. On one side of the print, it has illustrations of the different immortals. On the other side, it has the name of folklore. There is also an additional info sheet that introduces each of the immortals. I really enjoy the layout of this project because the connected panels of illustrations remind me of traditional Chinese horizontal scroll paintings.
Publication 3 — Typographic Links
I picked up embroidery over the pandemic so I’m curious about how to combine embroidery with printed objects. I find it very interesting in this project how the strings are used as physical links to connect words and messages. The behaviours of the strings are also very unique when it is attached to books because they restrict the pages to be completely opened and create different tension when they’re being flipped.
